Thomas Swan Celebrates Long Service

Thomas Swan & Co. Ltd., an independent chemical manufacturing company in their 91st year of trading, recently celebrated a combined 815 years of long serving employees with a celebratory lunch at the Lord Crewe Arms in Blanchland, Northumberland.

The family owned and run company that employs 175 people at their site in Consett, North East England, recognised the loyalty of 28 employees, representing 16% of the workforce, who have reached key milestones in their years of service, ranging from 25 to 40 years.

Long Service Awards and personalised letters were recently presented to all 28 employees by the Managing Director and 4th generation of the Swan family to run the business, Harry Swan, who said “One of the most valuable and remarkable things about family businesses is the sense of belonging and loyalty that they engender. I’m so proud of all our employees and stunned at the remarkable length of service that so many of them have devoted to Thomas Swan. This level of experience and commitment is not something that you can buy and it is the essence of our company’s success.”

Those receiving awards included Elaine Grimes, Accounts & Payroll Clerk, and Stephen Raisbeck, QHSE Manager, who are both celebrating over 40 years of service for Thomas Swan.

Stephen Raisbeck said “After almost 44 years’ service it is a testament to the Company that so many employees have over 25 years’ service and, personally, I still enjoy turning up for work each morning. Obviously, I have experienced a number of changes over that time, both to the Company (and there are more exciting times ahead as we continue to grow) and my personal career and I would like to thank Harry for some of those opportunities over the last 11 years of his tenure. The lunch was very nice too!”
